Hello is such a powerful word. When walking down the street, do you say hello to the people around you? I am often in a rush to get my chores and errands done when I’m out and about but having a two-year old in tow brings me down to earth and also means that we say hello to people. My daughter says hello to everyone and everything – hello person, hello lady, hello trees, hello sky, hello doggie…. I must admit that it is a good thing. It also brightens up our day as it does to the person we’re saying hello to. I often have to remind myself that our little hello may mean the world to someone having a bad day. Perhaps that elderly person is alone and hasn’t had a conversation or seen anyone in days. Perhaps that snippet of conversation at the supermarket or down the road has just saved someone’s life. The thing is, we never know what a person is going through. I have to remind myself to say hello, it’s free and it doesn’t require much effort.
Never underestimate the power of your hello. Why not send a card to someone you haven’t seen in ages or to someone across the miles to let them know that you are thinking of them? It opens up an opportunity to reconnect. Hello can mean many things when you send a card. It’s a generic form of greeting. So what if it’s someone’s birthday? There’s nothing wrong with ‘hello, happy birthday’!
Challenge yourself to say hello to as many people today. Make a stack of hello cards and reconnect with family and friends.
