Have you ever sat down at your craft table, surrounded by all your favourite supplies… and absolutely nothing happens? No ideas. No excitement. Just a blank mind staring back at you.
It’s frustrating, especially when you want to create but feel completely stuck. The good news? It happens to all of us, and it is usually a sign that your mind just needs a gentle reset.

Step Away to Move Forward
One of the best things you can do in that moment is surprisingly simple: put the tools down and walk away. I do this all the time.
Sometimes I’ll wander around my garden, noticing the colours in the flowers or the way the leaves overlap. Other days, I’ll head a little further and take a walk through a local park. Fresh air has a way of clearing your head and softening that creative pressure we tend to put on ourselves. And without even trying, inspiration starts to creep back in. It’s no coincidence that so many of my designs feature florals. Nature has a way of quietly refilling the creative tank.
Flip Your Starting Point
We often fall into the habit of starting every project the same way. Maybe you always reach for a stamp set first. Or perhaps you begin with a layout you’ve used before. when you’re stuck, try flipping that process on its head.
Start with the paper instead. Or choose a colour palette you love and build from there. You might even begin with a technique, like embossing or blending, and see where it takes you.
Changing your starting point can completely shift how your brain approaches the project. It removes that “I’ve done this before” feeling and replaces it with curiosity.
Give Yourself Permission to Play
Not every crafting session needs to result in a finished card. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is sit down with no plan at all. Try out a new tool. Mix colours you wouldn’t normally pair together. Stamp randomly on scrap paper just to see what happens.
When you take the pressure off the outcome, creativity tends to show up much more freely. Think of it as a warm-up rather than a performance.
Revisit an Old Favourite
If starting something new feels too hard, go back to something familiar. Pull out a stamp set you love or recreate a card you’ve made before. There’s comfort in the familiar, and it can help rebuild your confidence when your creative energy feels low.
Often, once you get going, you’ll naturally start adding your own twist anyway.
You’re Not Stuck, You’re Recharging
That “brick wall” feeling? It’s not the end of your creativity. It’s just a pause. A chance to step back, breathe, and come back with fresh eyes. And if you feel like you need a little nudge to get going again, that’s exactly what my classes in Oakleigh South are for. You can turn up, enjoy a relaxed few hours, and let me guide you through the process with everything ready to go.
Whether you need inspiration, a bit of structure, or simply a reason to carve out some creative time, I’d love to see you there.
Until then, next time you hit that wall… take a walk, look around, and let the world do a little bit of the creating for you.
