I don’t know about you, but early on in my crafting journey, I spent way too much time trying to line up cardstock against the edge of a ruler, holding my breath, and hoping my bone folder wouldn’t slip and create a wonky line. There is nothing more frustrating than finishing a beautiful stamped design only to have the whole card sit crooked because the fold was just a millimetre off!
That is exactly why I wanted to chat about the Simply Scored Scoring Tool today. Following on from our deep dive into the basics like the Paper Trimmer and the Heat Tool, this is the one piece of kit that took my projects from “looks handmade” to “looks professional.”
Why It Lives on My Desk
As a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in Melbourne, I do a lot of repetitive scoring, especially when I’m prepping for our local craft classes. The thing I love most is the sheer space. The base is 30.5 cm square, so whether I’m working on a tiny gift tag or a full page of scrapbooking supplies, everything fits.
I actually find myself reaching for it for the most random things. Remember those accordion-fold rosettes or the little boxes that need about twenty different fold lines? This makes it so much faster.
In fact, you can see exactly how I used this tool to create perfect decorative folds in my Children’s Room Decor tutorial, transforming simple paper into stunning home accents. I also relied on it for clean, crisp creases in my To The Moon Inspiration card, ensuring the finished product looked pristine.
The Bits That Make Life Easier
There are a few little features that I genuinely appreciate every time I sit down to create:
- Those Handy Place Markers: It comes with three little plastic markers that snap onto the top. If I’m making twenty identical handmade cards, I just snap them at the 10.5 cm and 14.8 cm marks (or wherever I need them) and I don’t have to squint at the ruler once.
- The 3.2 mm Grooves: The grooves are etched every 1/8″ (about 3.2 mm). It means you can get really intricate. If you’ve ever tried to do a sunburst fold by hand, you’ll know why this is a lifesaver.
- Everything Has a Home: I am notorious for losing my stylus under a pile of offcuts. This board has a little hidden compartment at the top for the stylus and the markers, which keeps my Oakleigh South studio just a little bit tidier.
